"Scilla" Murano Glass Washbasin
Washbasins made by Roberto Beltrami and his team in Murano.
These majestic washbasins are crafted from an coloured glass base that forms the sink, then melted with scorching details called "rostrums" all around.
The "Rostrato" technique is applied, layer by layer, like an incandescent "wrap" all along the external diameter of the main body.
Once this glass "embrace" has been melted on top of the piece, then it's pulled, "spike" by "spike", with a tweezer.
A very precise, quick and intense process, which is very difficult due to the huge and scorching mass of glass which has to be handled and must be kept at a stable temperature in order not to occur into the risk of thermal shock which can break the entire work.
