Murano blown handmade white glass sculpture
The Bauta
The “Bauta” is a traditional mask of the Venetian carnival, but it was not used only during this festivity. It was, in fact, used as a disguise to perform illegal actions without being recognized.
The entire mask was composed of a black coat, called “tabarro”, a black tricorn as headdress and a facial mask called “larva” (from latin “larvae, “ghost” in english).
